Volleyball Fever: The Smoking sport!!!

Team Smokas proved to be the best consistent team in volleyball as they went undefeated in the one day tournament!!! Smokas was the first team to show up with six players, they took their first win against Shaolin and never looked back.

Jermaine 'Papi' Adderley led the way lifting his team to their perfect vollebally record. Kenny the 'fisherman' Mackey played a strong game when he wasnt in the net. Kareem 'get it over' Hanna was consistent in his game as his focus was to keep it live and get it over. That, team smoka did very well with a few "i want a spike" attempts from donnovan "j" rolle who had the ups, the form, but not the accuracy as they all went too high and outside. But the overall smoka theme proved to be a great team approach. Dont let it drop, just get it over. They played like a team and like a team they claimed the points....

Hurricanes put out a valiant effort today as they never had a full squad of 6 persons. They played the majority of their games with 4 persons and quicly given props as a really good volleyball team. They passed, they served, and had a great kills from jarvis 'broke' grant and the multi-talented Godfrey 'MVP' Arthur. Felipe Major contributed along with Owen and Riel rounding off the team and giving team Hurricanes second place for the tournament and also second place in the standings....

Shaolin came out fighting but the wrath of smokas seemed to be too much coming from their softball defeat. Kaylen jervis had a good serving day and new recruit Sycmont Fountain also had a good show. Jermaine Wiilliams and Ozvon Pratt played in their first discipline tryin to help lift the team to a victory. Nathan Adderley seemed a bit fatigued and it showed as the team lacked that unity and depth. DeMario Minus had a few kills on the day but it was not enough as the team Shaolin settled for third place on the tournament and third place in the standings.

BAMFS was a no show for the tournament, having only about 3 persons that showed up on the day. This resulted in all their games being lost by default. As such, they still managed to pick up 25pts for a 4th place finish but this takes them far back in last place for the sigma games current leaderboard.

Stay tuned for more action and see how it all ends in the first ever Phil "Smoka" Smith Sigma Games!!!

Week 3 - Tropical Depression or Hurricane?

The feature matcup of Week 3 saw a massive hurricane packing in excess of 105 mph. The wind was definitely blowing, the water from tears almost appeared to be heavy rain as the Hurricanes blew away with the Highly favored smokas.

The game was a classic, the hurricanes jumed out front, and the fans were going crazy. There was a battle on the field as well as in the stands. The smokas in true smoka fashion came storming back. With Hot pitching by Godfrey Arthur and supperb batting by Kevin Smith; the hurricanes seemed almost untouchable. The smokas however began base hitting by Kareem Hanna, Mr. speed Donnovan Rolle was stealing bases in his usual fashion and Smoka current MVP N'Komo Ferguson held no punches as he played at least 5 positions in one game, OUTSTANDING!!!

The hurricanes however was able to hold off the smoka charge with greate defense with the likes of Owen Rolle, who played a tremendous game. The Hurricanes were able to hold on to number one spot and remain the only unbeaten team.

The question is: will they go undeated in the regular season and fall in the playoffs? Be There this saturday at the BiG DANCE to find out..........

In the earlier game, The batte of the fallen, shaolin took the field against bamfs. This game proved to be the battle of who had the most skills. shaolin showed their unforcasted skills takin several innings 1,2,3 on defense and racking up points agains B.A.M.F.S. Eventhough bamfs did not have a full team, they were still able to put the pressure on team shaolin making a strong run. Leading pitcher Baachus Rolle was too hot for team bamfs and the offensive live was on hitting surge.

B.a.M.F.S was able to put on a pretty neat strategy against pitcher B Rolle and come close in the scoring books. In the end however, shaolin was too strong and B.A.M.F.S took yet another lost to remain the only winless team in the torunament.

The current position standings are:

1st: Hurricanes
2nd: Smokas
3rd: Shaolin
4th: B.A.M.FS

BIG DANCE

This coming saturday will be the ultimate showdown!!!! Hurricanes will take on Bamfs in game one, and Shaolin takes on Smokas in game two. winners will advance to the finals and loosers play for the third spot. Games will kickoff early, from 9AM!!!!

Week 2 was HOT!!

With Ultimate dominance on the line, Team smokas took the field against the underdog shaolin. The beginning of the game proved to be a shocker as team shaolin looked like a brand new team and jumped all over the smokas in the opening innings. Smokas looked distressed and they were actually silent!!!!

smokas_downThe kung fu was good, and the 'chi' was strong. The Defense however did not uphold and the smokas were able to turn up the heat on shaolin down the stretch. After taking the lead, the mouths of smokas returned to the field and the trash talkin begun again. smokas

It seemed they regained their composure, regained their confidence, and finished the game with yet another win over shaolin with whopping score of 19-18. Congrats to B-day boy Mr. 3000 who striked out early but was able to hit the game winning score to bring the runner in. Congrats again to the smokas.

GAME 2

The also undefeated hurricanes took the field in game 2 against BAMFS. BAMFS was looking pretty in their new uniforms. But it seemed like their new uniforms were not weather resistant. The foecast was again a thunderstorm of runs, base hits, and solid fielding. BAMFS, however did not go down lightly at all, the pitching of Diallo Ingraham was fierce as he striked out many on the day.

In the end, BAMFS fought valiantly. Team captain 'grill conch' showed up but proved to be a non-factor. Big glove ryan antonio was in the house while smitty from the city was absence. Nevertheless, Hurricanes edged out BAMFS and secured another win as they presently lead all in points on the Phil Smoka Smith Sigma Games leaderboard.

Day 1 Action

Game 1

Day One of the games was a Huge success. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, sportsmanship, and the heat of battle. Team 1 – “Smokas” squared up against “B.A.M.F.S” in a highly anticipated matchup.  Folks, they did not disappoint.  The fans were cheering, other teams heckling, and the first win of the games was on the line. “B.A.M.F.S” lead for most of the games, with the score tied for most of the innings.
The “smokas” seemed to be teasing the crowd as they heated up, then “B.A.M.F.S” cooled them back down.  In the end, they put on the steam and the heat was just too much for “B.A.M.F.S”.

The game ended due to the mercy rule with the “smokas” on top with a score of 20 – 13. Congrats goes out to the Smokas Taking the first set of winning points for the games

Game 2

Game 2 featured the Hurricanes versus Shaolin.  This game appeared to be uneven from the break as the hurricanes took an early 5-0 first inning lead.  It seems like all the aerobics and stretching before the game paid off.

Mid-way Shaolin showed some life and came storming back bringing the score to 13-9.  This run however was quickly erased when Godfrey Arthur made the play of the day and produced a GRAND SLAM!! Bringing in 4 more runs for the hurricanes.  The weather had definitely changed and the Hurricanes went on the win the game with a final score of 18 – 9.
